A special thanks goes out to all who attended our series of Georgia Mountain Community Wind Fall Tours this year. Students and community members alike toured the facility, witnessing the turbines up close and learning more about wind power — as well as enjoying the lovely fall foliage from the top of Georgia Mountain!
The tours started with an overview of the project, why Georgia Mountain is a good location for wind energy, and the details surrounding how wind turbines work, followed by a look inside one of the turbines to explain its internal operations. Groups who participated in the tours included students from Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax, Georgia Elementary School, the Sustainability Academy of Burlington, the University of Vermont, Champlain College, and a group of home-school children from around the state, as well as the 350VT organization and other interested Vermonters.
“We all learned so much, and you did a great job of explaining things and keeping the kid’s attention!” said one teacher in the area.
If you weren’t able to make it up to Georgia Mountain for these past fall tour dates, we welcome you to join us in the spring.
Georgia Mountain Community Wind will be offering two spring tour dates:
- April 9th
- June 4th
More details on specific tour times and and additional dates will be posted later in the year. Please contact us if you’re interested in touring the facility on either of these days, or if you have any other general questions.
